WINTER GO-TO PROTEIN SHAKE
I love protein shakes for breakfast. Of course, eggs and stuff are great but for whatever reason I love something cold in the morning (maybe it helps to wake my ass up?)
We all have our favorite flavors around the holidays. Pumpkin, peppermint, cinnamon, etc. For me, I happen to love cherry (which is probably why I love Mad Elf from Troegs and Shiner Cheer). Because I can't indulge everyday on 11% craft beers, I stick to my fave chocolate cherry protein shake to get my fix.
For me, the chocolate 'protein powder' used can change day to day. I usually opt for something vegan or plant based because whey protein has a tendency to make me feel gross. Right now, I am using VegaOne because I like having the individual packets on hand for travel, but I also LOVE Garden of Life Raw Organic. Regardless of the brand, it's always chocolate.
The real superstar ingredient of this shake though is my favorite thing EVER: Vital Proteins Collagen Peptides. This stuff is pure GOLD. It's flavorless and quick dissolving, so you can literally add it to anything. I love adding it to coffee & juice, but will always toss it into my shakes and smoothies. While there is a laundry list of amazing benefits for adding a collagen supplement to your routine, I personally love this for the winter months because it improves your hair, skin, nails, joints, and ligaments which all tend to take a beating during the colder seasons.
Lastly, I add in frozen cherries and a banana mostly for flavor and texture, but both ingredients are high in potassium, reduce inflammation, and are packed with anti-oxidents.
